Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand Fundraiser

Bridge Tournament fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand: Taranaki Branch.
On the 17 August the Hawera Contract Bridge Club held a tournament to raise funds for our local Cystic Fibrosis Taranaki Branch. We have supported this charity for several years and always have a most enjoyable day. This year was no exception!
There were 13 tables or 52 people playing bridge. Nic McCarthy, her family, and friends provided a scrumptious lunch as well as morning tea and after play snacks. There was no excuse for being hungry!
Nic can go on record for saying this is an easier way to fundraise than sitting out in the cold selling raffle tickets. It is pleasing to note that $1466 was raised to support families living with Cystic Fibrosis in our area. Thank you to all those bridge players that supported this tournament.

From Nic McCarthy (Chairperson: Taranaki Branch)
The funds raised through your amazing generosity at the latest bridge club tournament to support Cystic Fibrosis will be used to provide
  • Emergency grants for families in need – support with heating costs during winter, equipment not funded through the public system, travel and accommodation requirements when out of region
  • Breathe for CF grants to remove financial barriers to exercise
  • Advocacy for access to life changing treatments for ALL people living with CF
  • Personalized social worker support for every stage of life with CF. We are very fortunate to have an amazing social worker supporting all Taranaki people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Hi Everyone,

Spring is here at last!

And with that comes Daylight Saving, which starts on 28th September. Therefore, our starting times will return to 7.30pm. I will remind you all closer to the time.

Amanda
We were very sad to lose our fellow club and committee member Amanda on 15th August after a long battle with cancer.

Tournaments
The Rosebowl has been returned to its rightful place in our cabinet, thanks to all who participated in this tournament.
Our Junior and Intermediate tournaments were very successful again this year. Really nice to see our juniors keen to participate, you are all doing well.
The Cystic Fibrosis tournament was very successful also. Nic and her team are always very appreciative of this fundraiser, and the lunch was amazing.
The annual Loveblock New Zealand wide pairs tournament is a bit earlier this year on Friday 17th October, with play commencing 7.00pm. Please consider entering as it is a fun tournament, entries will be online.

Committee news
A special meeting is planned for Sunday 21st September at 11.30am for all members to discuss our new constitution. Please ensure that you have all read the document that has been emailed to you all and come along with any concerns.
Our heating system unfortunately cannot be fixed so we will be replacing it with a new system in the near future.
Please remember to support our convenors by putting your names in the playing book and advise them as soon as possible if your circumstances change. They put in a lot of time to ensure that the sessions run smoothly.

Friday Bridge
Our fun Fridays are going well. If you are having trouble finding a partner, the WhatsApp app is a great way to connect. Please reach out if you need help with this. Many thanks to those who come along, our afternoon teas are amazing.

New Players
A big welcome to Karyn Johnson and Michelle McLeod who will soon be joining the B section. We look forward to meeting you both at the bridge table.
